A Hidalgo County man is behind bars after a crime spree that included kidnapping a woman outside a Walmart store in Alamo.

It all happened outside a WalMart store off Expressway 83 and Cesar Chavez Road around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Alamo police told Action 4 News that the victim was pumping gas at the time of the incident.

Investigators said suspect Joshua Arteaga went up to the woman with a gun and forced her victim inside of his SUV.

Just a quarter of a mile down the road, the woman was able to jump out of the SUV and run for help.

The woman was not seriously injured but Alamo police said the crime spree didn’t end there.

Investigators said Arteaga later committed a robbery in the neighboring City of Donna.

A motive for the crimes isn't clear but authorities arrested Arteaga during a traffic stop.

Alamo police Arteaga was charged with aggravated kidnapping and given a $90,000 bond.
