A fight over a girl turns violent in Edinburg Thursday morning after one of the teens involved pulled out a gun and started shooting.

It happened on the 700 block of Baker Street.

Luckily for the victim, David Villanueva, the bullet hit him in the shoulder and he's expected to be ok.

But Juan Briones, the teen accused of shooting the victim, might not be so lucky.

Edinburg police said this wasn’t Briones first run in with the law.

He was actually out on bond pending trial for a murder he was allegedly a part of back in October of 2011.

In an interview with Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño last year, he said that Briones confessed to his role in the murder of Erasmo Morales.

According to earlier reports, Morales asked Briones and another man, Esteban Albiter, to slow down while driving through his neighborhood.

The teens allegedly shot Morales numerous times killing him.

Briones is a confirmed Tri-City Bomber gang member---however, Lt. Oscar Treviño said this incident was not gang related.

"The victim and the suspect were arguing over a relationship with a female,” said Lt. Oscar Treviño.

Lt. Treviño said both men have extensive criminal histories.

Briones was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and given a $1 million bond.

As for Villanueva, he was charged with aggravated assault for his part in the shooting and was given a $500,000 bond.
