A moment of fear did not stop an Hidalgo County woman from helping out an injured man after hearing several gunshots go off.

The woman asked not to be identified.

"He had a gunshot wound towards the back," she described the injured man.

Early Saturday morning, he showed up on her door with gunshot wound to his upper torso, and begged her for help.

"I don’t know the man, but he went to my house and asked for help,” she explained.

Despite not knowing him, the woman rushed the injured man from her home near 13 Mile North and 2 Mile Line West, to Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said the injured man was the target of a crime.

"This is a drug related shooting,” he said. “We believe that the victim was beat and tortured and then eventually he was shot."

The gunman left him for dead, but the victim got up ran for help at the woman’s house.

Treviño added that shortly after responding to the shooting, they arrested two men about half a mile from the crime scene.

"We seized a pickup truck that was almost inside a canal and there was some marijuana inside so we believe that it's all connected,” he explained.

But the suspected shooter , a man identified as Jaime Roque, is still on the run.

Sheriff Treviño said he is considered armed and dangerous.

Roque is described about 40 years old, and may be driving a black Corvette.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call the Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers line at (956) 668-TIPS.

The shooting victim is reported to be in stable condition.
