Rio Grande Valley job seekers get ready

Over 1300 job openings in the Rio Grande Valley will be highlighted during the 2012 Economic Resource and Career Fair in Harlingen.

The job fair will be on Thursday, May 3rd from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Madison Street at the Harlingen Community Center and at the Casa Del Sol.

The event is sponsored by Workforce Solutions, Workforce Solutions Cameron, City of Harlingen and Action 4 News in conjunction with U.S. Congressman Cuellar, U.S. Congressman Farenthold and U.S. Congressman Hinojosa.

Forty-five employers, nine community agencies and five exhibitors for the Veterans Corner will all be there to talk to eager job seekers.

The jobs available range from entry level, all the way to management positions, and the list of employers hiring will given out on the day of the fair for those who are applying.

Some industries that will be hiring are healthcare, education, construction, manufacturing, maintenance, customer service, insurance, and law enforcement.

Employers will be conducting on-site interviews and job seekers are expected to show-up well dressed and to bring resumes.

Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy counties have bus vouchers for anyone who needs a ride to Harlingen. There is no eligibility process involved, other than the person stating they need transportation for the career fair.

Transportation will be free from McAllen to Harlingen.

For more information on the bus routes and fares, individuals can visit http://www.lrgvdc.org/valleymetro/index.html

All routes will take the job seeker to the Valley Transit Company (VTC) station in Harlingen. The station is a ½ block away from the job fair.
