A Cameron County man is behind bars after leading a deputy constable on a high-speed chase with a baby and a 2-year-old child in the car.

Precinct 4 deputy constables arrested Gilberto Castro on multiple criminal charges on Monday night.

Court records released on Wednesday show it all started east of Rio Hondo off East Brown Tract and Gracia Roads around 9:17 p.m. Monday.

The deputy constable reported that Castro was having trouble staying in his lane, so he tried pulling him over.

Castro led the deputy constable on a high-speed chase down several rural roads before stopping on a canal bank south of Lozano.

A motive isn’t clear but court records show that Castro threw Bud Light beer cans out of the window during the chase.

A 24-year-old woman was the front seat passenger while a 2-month-old girl and a 2-year-old boy in the back seat.

It’s not Deputy constables charged Castro with evading arrest and two counts of child endangerment.

Castro remains in custody at the Cameron County jail under $30,000 dollars in bonds.
