Emergency responders fanned out across Willacy and Cameron Counties Friday evening to assess any damage from the severe weather that barreled across the valley.
The city Lyford was pounded by showers and Willacy County Emergency Coordinator Frank Torres said a funnel cloud was reported near Raymondville.
He also said there has been no reports of damage just some pea sized hail.
Torres believes the quick moving storms may have helped.
Although it wasn't quick enough for a few drivers involved in minor fender benders.
In Cameron County, Humberto Barrera with the Emergency Management office said his crews will work round the clock tonight to do clean up debris and assess the county for damages.
“Our emergency management crew is on the road so is our public crews,” said Barrera. “We quickly start assessing what needs to be done, who needs help.”
Barrera said thankfully as opposed to storms earlier this month, preliminary surveys show no reports of injuries.
There were sporadic power outages, nickel sized hail and downed trees.
“We do have a sheriff’s department deputy standing by making sure the public is safe doing traffic control,” said Barrera.
Barrera said the severe weather is an excellent gauge of preparedness ahead of hurricane season.
“The one sure thing about the storms is to expect the unexpected,” said Barrera. “No two storms are the same, so with that in mind we make preparations for the worse.”
