The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office continues investigating and working on notifying the families of the victims.

They've released very few details since the shooting overnight.

The shooting happened at about 1 in the morning at a ranch on Jesus Flores Road in La Blanca.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said masked gunman began shooting indiscriminately on people attending a cockfighting event at the ranch.

The shooting left three men dead as well as eight others wounded, one in critical condition.

Sheriff Treviño said spectators trampled evidence and even other victims as they fled the scene.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear.

He added that the cockfighting operation was very elaborate.

They had small concession arenas, concession stands and plenty of room for the roosters.

In all, they seized approximately 80 rooster that were taken to a county facility.

Deputies remain at the ranch combing for clues in the investigation.

So far they have not made any arrests.

Sheriff Lupe Treviño said they are looking for two to four suspects in the shooting.

If you have any information, you are urged to call their crime stoppers line at 668-TIPS.
