Authorities are working to put multiple fires along a long stretch of railroad tracks on Brownsville’s westside.
The fires started mid-Thursday afternoon.
Brownsville Fire Chief Lenny Perez told Action 4 News that firefighters are working to put out fires on multiple fronts.
According to reports, the fires are running along the railroad tracks on the city’s westside from Tandy Road to Boca Chica Boulevard.
One report said there was another fire along the railroad tracks near the state fish hatchery.
Firefighters are working to keep the fires from spreading to homes, schools and businesses along the railroad tracks.
It’s not clear if the fire was caused by sparks from a passing train but Chief Perez said the fires remain under investigation.
Firefighters from San Benito and Los Fresnos have been called to help out battle the fires.
