A Harlingen man is behind bars after a domestic disturbance where he allegedly doused his wife's clothes with gasoline and firing a rifle inside their closet.

Harlingen police arrested 32-year-old Jose Javier Alcantar on two aggravated assault family violence charges late Sunday night.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Alcantar got in an argument with his wife the their home on East Harrison Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The woman told police that Alcantar poured a flammable liquid on all her clothes in the closet and then fired a rifle into the closet.

It all happened while the woman and the couple's 6-year-old son were laying in bed.

The woman took her son and left to her father's house where she called police to report the domestic disturbance.

Officer arrested Alcantar on two aggravated assault family violence charges but learned he had an outstanding warrant and traffic tickets.

Alcantar appeared before a Harlingen municipal judge on Monday morning where he was issued a $500,000 dollars in bonds.
