Middleman gets 30 years for role in Rio Hondo teacher's death

The middleman in a murder plot to kill a Rio Hondo teacher has pleaded guilty to his role in the crime.

Gabriel Apolinar Escalante appeared for jury selection in the 404th State District Court on Monday morning.

Instead of going to trial, Escalante pleaded guilty to his role in the death of Rio Hondo teacher Sonia Perez.

Escalante admitted to putting Perez’s preacher husband Julio Cesar Perez in touch with the killer.

A visiting judge sentenced Escalante to 30 years in prison for his role in Sonia Perez’s death.

Escalante is the third suspect to plead guilty in the case where a total of six people were arrested.
