A Hidalgo County man, shot in the face, is now recovering at a San Antonio hospital.

Joel Sanchez was shot once but received several gunshot wounds to his face all over a case of road rage.

Javier Perez faced criminal charges, deputies said, for telling a juvenile in his vehicle to shoot Sanchez.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Perez was riding in a vehicle with three others on FM 1925 in Hidalgo County when he cut off the victim in his pick-up.

Both drivers pulled over, exchanged words and suddenly the victim, Sanchez, saw a juvenile point a gun at him from inside the truck and open fire.

Sanchez was shot multiple times in his face.

Investigators say Perez fled the scene and was arrested at him home.

They also recovered the sawed off shotgun used in the shooting.

"We found that hidden in a shed outside of Mr. Perez home,” said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño. “We found it after we searched the property with a search warrant."

Sheriff investigators said because of the 'law of parties', he is responsible for the act as if he had pulled the trigger.

The juvenile ordered to shoot Sanchez is being held in the Hidalgo County Juvenile Detention Center.

According to the sheriff, Perez was arrested once before for burglary and is an illegal immigrant.

Sheriff Treviño wants to stress this case is not gang related but simply a case of road rage gone wrong.

Perez is being charged with discharging a prohibited weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

His bonds total $535,000.
