Counselors brought in to help grieving students

The death of an 18-year-old student in the Brownsville Independent School District remains under investigation. 

BISD Spokeswoman Drue Brown told Action 4 News the school district “and Rivera High School in particular is mourning the passing of Juvenal Torres”. 

The standout athlete was killed during Saturday following during a reported police pursuit in Matamoros, Mexico just south of the B&M International Bridge. 

Counselors will be at Rivera High School to help students and faculty cope with this tragic event. 

The Torres family is expected to speak to the family Action 4 News later today.
