A Lockhart, Texas man was last heard from while in Mexico, according to his sister.

Gretchen Wiegand Mayo said her brother Carl Jonathan Wiegand was visiting family near Monterrey, Mexico.

She said March 10 around 9:30 p.m. Carl spoke with friends in McAllen by phone.

He reportedly informed them he could not enter the U.S. through the Falcon Dam Crossing because it was closed.

She said he told friends he would take Federal Highway 2 to the next bridge heading to the Valley.

That path would have taken him through Ciudad Mier and Miguel Aleman, notorious territory for rival cartel battles.

Gretchen Wiegand said hours later Carl’s friends still had not heard from him.

He remains missing.

Wiegand said she filed a missing persons report with the Caldwell County Sheriff's Department.

She described Carl as a white adult male in his mid 30s, 5’9, 165 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

He was reportedly driving a 1998 Maroon Chevy Blazer with Texas plates CC8- G299.

An official with the American Consulate in Monterrey confirms that the U.S. State Department is contact with and helping the family.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wiegand family at (512) 230-1377.
