Frank Madrigal couldn't hold back the tears of pain and anger when talking about his son's attack and how he wants those responsible to come forward.

He describes his youngest of three sons Derek as his "soul".

"The first thing I would say to them is how dare you, how low you are and how you're nothing but gutless cowards, faceless cowards..." said Frank.

This father is seeking justice for his son Derek Madrigal.

The 21-year-old is still recovering from a vicious attack on South Padre Island during Spring Break.

This video reportedly shows him being beaten with coolers after he was stabbed nearly a dozen times.

Frank madrigal has a message for his son's attackers.

"Man up and do the right thing and present yourself as I am and be a man and call the authorities" said Derek’s father.

Frank is pushing for the main suspect in the case to be punished with a stiffer charge.

33-year-old Michael Rangel faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

An SPI judge recently raised Rangel's bond from $20,000 to $100,000.

"We need to be diligent that we really bring the right kind of closure to this incident,” said Frank. “As far as the charges I can only tell you that although I think they are far lower than they should be, I'm committed to working with the district attorney"

Derek's recovery has been slow.

His father said he lost weight and has not been able to eat much.

He added that his son is in good spirits and determined to get better and return to Dallas.

“A young adult like Derek can teach us the lessons in life that we need to know,” said the concerned father. “The lessons about love and discipline and family and caring and compassion and looking out for each other and that's the story that wins here"

Madrigal said since Derek's story came out they've received an outpouring of support from the community locally and back in Dallas.

He said his family will remain faithful that justice will be served for Derek.
