Edcouch-Elsa School Board President Joseph Campos remains behind bars.

The 47-year-old official is jailed for owing $7,500 in child support.

Campos pulled over his car near Expressway 83 and Westgate Drive on Thursday.

A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state trooper pulled up while Campos was allegedly arguing with his wife.

According to DPS, the state trooper ran a check on the couple and their records showed Campos had several warrants out for his arrest.

Aside from owing child support, Campos also had a warrant out of San Patricio County, Texas for hot checks.

Campos is now being held at the Hidalgo County Jail where he’s awaiting extradition to San Patricio County.

An attorney for the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District would not comment on the situation.

Campos is running for the Texas State House of Representatives District 35 seat.

There’s no word how the incident would affect his candidacy for the race.

What do you think?
Should Joseph Campos resign from the Texas State Rep race?
