While a vacant piece of land at the corner of Stewart and Ridge Road does not look like much today, it will soon be home to the men in blue.

"We're looking at building a police department that takes us into the future,” San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said. “Something that we cannot outgrow in a couple of years."

San Juan P.D. is just one of the 12 Valley Law Enforcement agencies who received millions of dollars from ICE.

The money stems from the capture, arrest and conviction of Gulf Cartel leader Osiel Cardenas-Guillen.

San Juan received over 1.8 million dollars from the case and will now put those funds to good use, building their new police department.

"It allows us to continue our efforts," Chief Gonzalez said.

He added that the money will not be enough to build the new department, so they will work with the city to come up with the rest of the funds.
