The menu might look the same but La Joya Independent School District Officials have found healthier options when it comes to serving the same old cafeteria food.

"We have a wider variety of fresh fruits and vegetables,” La Joya ISD Public Information Officer Corina Lopez explained. “We've also included a range of oats and grains...we've also added the fat free milk in the chocolate and strawberry flavor."

It was a move, she said, that lead to better choices among students.

While some still enjoy the fried food, Lopez said with new choices such as a salad, fruit cup, and even fresh fruit---students tend to gravitate toward the healthier option.

"The students are selecting more of the fresh fruit. We're seeing they're happy with the more diverse choices they have available."
