A Brownsville man is behind bars after spending more than three weeks on the run for a New Year’s Day stabbing.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested 25-year-old Pedro Lamas Cardenas on an aggravated assault charge Thursday.

Brownsville police told Action 4 News that the charge stems from a New Year’s Day stabbing off Calle Milpa Verde in the Southmost area of the city.

Investigators said Cardenas was among a group of men to chase and confront the victim and his friend.

Police said the victim ended up being stabbed in his head, face, neck, arms and torso.

While recovering at the hospital, the victim was able to identify Cardenas as one of the suspects.

Authorities were able to track down Cardenas to a home off the 5700 block of Matamoros Streets in northeast Brownsville early Thursday morning.

Cardenas appeared before a Brownsville municipal judge on Friday morning where he was issued $50,000 dollars in bonds.
