On the first anniversary of his death, family members gathered to remember one of the city's youngest murder victims.
Jose Luis Martinez was shot and killed by a drive by bullet as he opened the front door of his Las Milpas home on January 17, 2011.
He was 14 years old.
“When he would shrug his shoulders he would make that little smile to the side,” remembers the victim’s aunt Angelica Torres.
Jose Luis' aunt says he was a lovable person.
Wearing José’s favorite team's shirt the family recall some of his favorite pastimes.
“He used to play a lot of football with us outside in the street,” said Jose’s uncle Josue Martinez. “ He liked to play Xbox and listen to music.”
But they also take this time to demand justice in the investigation of his untimely death.
"It's hard every day knowing that he's not here with us,” said Torres. “And that there's someone still out there that they haven't caught.”
Investigators say, after the shooting, a red Honda Sedan, believed to be the suspects' vehicle was seen leaving the 200 block of West Longoria.
Police are still looking for three males.
"We are still actively involved in the investigation,” said Lieutenant William Edmundson with Pharr Police Department. “We are pursuing every lead that should come in and all information that's received. Every day we get closer and closer to solving the case.”
Detectives don't believe Jose Luis was involved with a gang, but they continue to investigate if anyone living nearby was and if they had anything to do with his murder, in order to bring this investigation to a close and hopefully give the Martinez family closure.
