More than 112 pounds of marijuana is off the streets after two men were caught trying to smuggle them inside two ceramic statues.

It all happened at Brownsville’s B&M International Bridge around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Brownsville City Jail records show that Macario Boyso and Emanuel Trejo are both facing possession of marijuana charges.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers sent the two men to secondary inspection after they entered the United States from Mexico.

Customs officers found 112.36 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a statue of a lion and a snail.

Authorities turned over the investigation to the Brownsville Police Department because the amount of marijuana did not meet the federal threshold.

Both men appeared before a Brownsville municipal judge on Friday where they were each issued $25,000 dollar bonds.
