The Mexican Army seized more than 2300 pounds of marijuana while on patrol in Matamoros on Wednesday.

Mexico's Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) said soldiers were on patrol on San Juan Poniente Street in the city's southside neighborhood of Jardines de San Juan.

While on patrol, they came across 119 bundles of marijuana inside a building, weighing in at 2374 pounds.

The Mexican Army said the drugs have an estimated street value of nearly $4.2 million.

The seizures are part of their Operation Northeast, a military offensive to crack down on cartels in the states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon.
