Every January 1st, South Padre Island officials their annual ‘Polar Bear Dip’ to ring in the New Year.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. Sunday and stops at 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

A city official counts down to high Noon when hundreds of participants go into the waters of Gulf of Mexico.

It all takes place on the beach behind Boomerang Billy's Beach Bar off Gulf Boulevard.

This year, city officials are partnering with Walk For Women and the theme is Pink-in The New Year.
