A Starr County Sheriff’s Office deputy investigator found himself on the other side of the law after being accused of poaching.
Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) game wardens arrested Javier Peña early Sunday morning.
Investigators said the 10-year veteran of the sheriff's department was in his unmarked county unit with a few friends when they started illegally shooting deer.
Officials said a game warden caught the group and arrested them.
Bond information was not immediately available.
Starr County Sheriff Rene Fuentes said Peña has been suspended pending an internal investigation.
