A Brownsville man is headed to trial in Mississippi after pleading not guilty to a smuggling more than $109,000 dollars in cash.

Gilberto Cuello III appeared before a U.S. District Court Judge Robert H. Walker in Gulfport, Mississippi on Monday.

Court records show that the 23-year-old Brownsville man pleaded not guilty to a bulk cash smuggling charge.

Judge Walker accepted the plea and set trial for February 6th, 2012.

The records show that a Jackson County Sheriff’s Department deputy pulled Cuello over for a traffic stop and found $109,491 dollars in cash inside the car.

Cuello told FBI agents that it was his third time smuggling cash into Mexico.

The Brownsville man told FBI agents would deliver the cash to either a McDonalds restaurant or El Phoenix pharmacy in Matamoros.

Public records show that Cuello lives off of Santa Anita Drive near the Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport.

If convicted, Cuello could face up to five years in prison.
