Third suspect in deputy shooting out of hospital, facing charges

$3.5 million dollar bond for drrver in shooting incident

A third suspect accused in the shooting of a Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputy is out of the hospital and facing criminal charges.

Jorge Luis Alvarez appeared before a judge at the Hidalgo County Jail late Thursday morning.

The 31-year-old suspect is facing aggravated kidnapping and attempted capital murder charges.

Investigators said Alvarez was driving a car used involved in a shootout with deputies Hugo Rodriguez and Manuel Morales early Sunday morning.

The two deputies were responding to a kidnapping call northeast of Edinburg.

Investigators said the incident was connected to a marijuana load stolen from a Gulf Cartel faction.

Suspected kidnapper David Gonzales Perez was killed during the shootout with deputies.

Two men were arrested and charged for the kidnapping and their roles in the shootout.

Alvarez was shot in the head and is now facing charges after being released from the hospital.

Several other people were arrested in connection to the marijuana seizure.
