A Brownsville student is facing criminal charges for an alleged arson plot after authorities found a plastic bottle filled with lighter fluid.

It all happened at Besteiro Middle School off Southmost Road on Monday afternoon.

Investigators received a tip that a 13-year-old student was planning to burn down an abandoned building next to the school.

Brownsville Independent School District (ISD) police search the student’s belongings and found a plastic bottle filled with lighter fluid.

The student had allegedly wrapped in plastic and taped the bottle to prevent spills or odors while at school.

Brownsville Fire Department investigators arrested the student on attempted arson charges and took him to the Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Justice Center in San Benito.
