Authorities are looking to upgrade charges filed against a Border Patrol agent after a 21-year-old victim in a DWI wreck passed away in the hospital.

McAllen police arrested 27-year-old Border Patrol Adrian Parada, Jr. on an intoxication assault charge early Sunday morning.

Parada appeared before a McAllen municipal judge on Monday afternoon where he was formally charged with third-degree felony intoxication assault.

The Border Patrol agent was issued a $75,000 dollar bond.

Parada is accused of causing a three-car wreck off West Nolana Avenue and North 10th Street around 2:45 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators said Parada rear-ending a car waiting at a stop light.

The impact sent rear-ended car crashing into a McAllen Police Department patrol unit in the intersection.

The driver of the rear-ended car, 21-year-old Abraham Sevilla, spent three days in critical condition before dying on Tuesday.

Authorities said they are now looking at upgrading the charges against Parada to intoxication manslaughter.
