A Brownsville man is behind bars after he allegedly asked a 16-year-old boy to perform sexual acts.

Brownsville police arrested 35-year-old Nelson Wilfredo Mendoza on a criminal solicitation of a minor charge early Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said the incident happened when a 16-year-old boy was walking home last Thursday.

Mendoza offered the boy a ride and the teen accepted.

Investigators said Mendoza asked the boy to perform sexual acts with him but the teen declined.

The teen told his mother when he got home and they gave a description of Mendoza and partial license plates to police.

Detectives learned Mendoza's identity and arrested him at his job early Tuesday afternoon.

Mendoza appeared before a Brownsville municipal judge but his bond information was not immediately available.
