One phone call changed Luciano Villarreal’s life

His son was killed on Halloween of 2010 in a hit-and-run accident.

"His mom, passed away five or six years ago,--so I took care of him.  He was like my son” said Luciano Villarreal.

“That’s what made it extremely difficult".

Brownsville Police said Eric Villarreal was walking home from a Halloween party on Tandy road near Alton Gloor in Brownsville when a truck hit him from behind.

Nearly a year later, investigators still have very little information about the truck and have not made an arrest.

"We don't want this case to go cold” said Sgt. Eddie Garcia.

“We haven’t received much information and we definitely encourage people to call Crime Stoppers".

All that is left at the site is a sign asking for help and years of memories family and friends of Eric’s will never forget.

According to family members, Eric was a friendly person. He worked at Texas Road House and went to Page High School.

Thursday, Brownsville police were out re-visiting the crime scene, going through evidence in hopes of finding someone that may have seen what happened.

"Hopefully it will refresh somebody’s mind as to what happened that night” said Eddie Garcia.

“Maybe [someone] heard something after this accident".

Police do have surveillance video of that truck.

If you have any information on this crime, call Brownsville’s Crime Stopper Line at (956)-546-TIPS.

All information is kept confidential.
