A sting operation to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors ended with two people being arrested in Harlingen.

Harlingen police and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) conducted "Operation Keeping Teens Sober" on Thursday evening.

Authorities arrested 40-year-old John Corey McWhorter and 24-year-old Maryln Marie Banuelos as part of the sting operation.

McWhorter allegedly sold alcohol to an undercover minor at the Cellar Fine Wine at 101 N Stuart Place Rd.

Banuelos is accused of selling alcohol to a minor at the Exxon Speedy Stop off Ed Carey Drive and U.S. Expressway 77/83.

Both of them now face sale of alcohol to minors charge.

Under Texas state law, sale of alcohol to a minor is a Class A misdemeanor punishable up to one year in jail and a $4,000 dollar fine.
