A tropical wave nearing the Caribbean will likely form into the next tropical depression as early as today.

The National Hurricane Center gave the area of heavy showers and thunderstorms a high chance at 90 percent for further development.

Most of the models show the storm entering the eastern Gulf of Mexico later in the week.

The "Hurricane Hunter" aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance Monday morning.
