Johnathon Valdez cherishes every moment with his two-year-old son.

He said Benjamin almost never made it into this world because of a speeder years ago.

"That accident almost cost my wife and my son his life when she was 34 weeks pregnant," he said.

That's why Valdez called for action in his own Brownsville neighborhood.

He said the problem with speeders has hit too close to home.

"In a split second anything can happen."

The speed limit is 20 miles per hour on Fruitdale drive.

There are 3 sets of road humps.

Valdez explained how the extra precaution was needed because there's a church, trailer park, daycare center and tons of homes in the neighborhood.

"I contacted the Speedzapper because I know Channel 4 listens and takes care of the people," he said.

The Speedzapper caught more than a half dozen motorists driving over the speed limit in the span of just a few minutes.

One driver, who admittedly was speeding at 38 miles per hour, talked about how she never thought she would be zapped.

Speedzapper: "Do you watch our program streets of speed?"

Elizabeth: "I see you all the time."

Speedzapper: "Did you ever think you'd be zapped?"

Elizabeth: "Nope... And I'm not looking at my best right now."

Turns out she lives in Valdez's neighborhood.

She told the Speedzapper how her actions were wrong..

Valdez hopes this will be a lesson for every driver on Fruitdale Drive.

"The goal is to get the whole neighborhood to pitch in and help just have overall safety for the neighborhood."
