Monday robberies bring total to four bank robberies for 2010

Authorities are reporting that two bank robberies took place in downtown Brownsville ine one day.

The first robbery took place at a Wells Fargo Bank off East Levee Street around 10 a.m. Monday.

The second robbery took place around 3:30 p.m. at the First National Bank just one block away.

Police arrested 22-year-old suspect Michael Ruiz in the first robbery but the suspect in the second robbery remains at large.

Investigators said a light to medium complected man walked into the First National Bank during the second robbery.

The suspect in the second robbery handed the teller a note demanding money.

The teller complied handing him an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect is described as 5 foot, 8 inches tall, slim build and is believed to be in his late 30's to early 40's.

He was last seen wearing a black cap, blue jeans and a gray T-shirt with black lettering in the front.

Witnesses told police he was last seen heading on foot between East Levee and St. Charles Streets towards East 8th Street.

The Monday robberies mark the fourth robberies for the year. 

All four robberies have taken place in June or July and all in downtown Brownsville.
