Harlingen murder suspect added to Texas Most Wanted list

A suspect in a Harlingen murder case has been added to the Texas Most Wanted list.

The Texas Crime Stoppers program is offering a $7,500 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of 28-year-old Ernesto Alonso Garcia.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials said Garcia is an Edinburg resident and a member of the Texas Syndicate prison gang.

Harlingen police named Garcia as a suspect in the March 11th stabbing death of 27-year-old Ivan Rodriguez.

DPS officials report that Garcia is wanted for murder and aggravated assault by the Harlingen Police Department and for marijuana trafficking by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Investigators said Garcia has a prior history of violent behavior with other convictions for assault and is to be considered armed and dangerous.

DPS officials reported that Garcia has 96 aliases and goes by two nicknames: Rooster and Gallito. 

Authorities said has the word “Garcia” is tattooed across his back. 

Garcia reportedly drives a gray 2000 Pontiac Firebird with Texas license plate Z45 LHZ. 

DPS reports that Garcia is a Mexican citizen and legally resides in the United States as a permanent resident.

Texas Crime Stoppers offers rewards to any person who provides information that leads to the arrest of one of the 10 Most Wanted Fugitives.

Anyone with information can provide anonymous tips in three different ways:

• Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
• Text the letters DPS—followed by your tip—to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
• Submit a tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture to submit a web tip.
