Texas lawmakers have a tough job on their hands, battling the state budget.

Miles and Miles away in Harlingen, a massive undertaking is underway to generate money into the economy.

"It's huge for Harlingen, and it's particularly huge for downtown", said Cheryl LaBerge with the City of Harlingen.

The Reese building tucked away in downtown Harlingen is a multimillion dollar project.

The building is now being renovated into a mixed use retail/office/residential/meeting space complex like those in Austin, Houston and San Antonio.

The first floor of the Reese building will feature Italian restaurant Colletti's and retail space.

Colletti's Executive Chief Jamie Garcia told Action 4 News, "There's still a lot of odds and ends stuff being finished up".

From the exposed brick oven, to the Italian soda fountain, and state of the art kitchen, Colletti's is set to open at the end of this month.

Right now a massive hiring is underway with a variety of jobs available from cooks to wait staff.

"We're looking at about 50 people total", said Garcia.

Preferred candidates will have at least 2 years of professional restaurant experience.

Creating jobs is one thing, Garcia also tells Action 4 News  the independent restaurant  will shop with local valley providers.

While Colletti's  will be the first business to open at the Reese building, the city of Harlingen is extremely excited about the entire multi million dollar project.

"Putting it back on the tax roll is huge because it had belong to the housing authority before this redevelopment", said LaBerge.

If your interested in a job with Colletti's you can stop by the restaurant this week between 9:00am to 4:00pm.

Colletti's at The Reese is located at 202 S. 1st. Street in Harlingen.
