A Brownsville mother has entered a plea bargain in a case where she locked her 12-year-old daughter in a closet for at least one year.

Leticia Ines appeared before Judge Leonel Alejandro in the 357th State District Court on Monday morning.

The Brownsville pleaded guilty to an injury to a child charge and received a one-year sentence.

Judge Alejandro ruled that Ines would get credit for the time she already served in the county jail meaning she will be released in 13 days.

Brownsville police arrested both Ines and her husband Alfredo Ines in January 2011 after learning they had kept their 12-year-old daughter locked up in a closet for a year.

The parents told authorities that they did that because the girl had psychological problems and even tried to stab her brothers on previous occasions.

Defense attorney report that Brownsville Independent School District have a file documenting her problems.
