Not a day goes by without 81 year old  Joe Tachout riding his scooter around his Brownsville neighborhood on Simpson street.

One of his favorite places to visit is the HEB on Boca Chica Boulevard.

“I come down every day over there," said Tachout.

But he never imagined, a quick trip to the grocery store could almost cost him his life.

Wednesday afternoon as Tachout was heading to buy some bread and soup he said he was stuck by a truck at the busy Simpson intersection...

“He hit me and I flipped over,” said the senior.

The Brownsville resident told Action 4 he flew off his chair and wasn’t afraid about losing his life rather his scooter.

But the 4 wheeled machine, didn't have a scratch, Tachout on the other hand wasn't so lucky.

Joe received scratches on his arms and is still healing from his injuries.

Brownsville Police said the man responsible was 78 year old Luciano Sierr, since he apparently tried to make a left turn on Boca Chica when he hit Tachout.

Authorities said Sierra was given a ticket for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian and failure to stop and provide information.

But don’t think this accident scared Tachout, he said he'll continue cruising by with his scooter but just be more careful.
