A historic lottery jackpot got even bigger on Tuesday afternoon.

Ticket sales prompted organizers of the Mega Millions lottery to increase the jackpot to $355 million dollars on Tuesday afternoon.

The multi-state lottery now has an estimated cash value of $224.2 million dollars.

This is the second time this week that Mega Millions officials had to increase the value of the jackpot due to ticket sales.

The jackpot jumped from $290 million to $330 million dollars after a record number of people bought tickets on Monday.

The lucky numbers will be drawn tonight.

Employees at the Town & Country store off North 10th Street in McAllen told Action 4 News that they were selling hundreds of tickets per hour on Tuesday.

The game is drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays but has now gone 15 drawings or more than seven weeks without a winner.

Mega Millions is played in 41 states and the District of Columbia.

Winners must match five numbers and a sixth "Mega Ball" to win the full amount.

Paying $1 dollar extra allows players to pick a Megaplier of 2, 3 or 4 can double, triple or quadruple their non-jackpot winnings.

The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately 1 in 176 million while the odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 40.
