Shopping for a spouse is never easy, for either sex.
But if you're a woman shopping for that special man, here are some gifts you might want to avoid.
Bad gift number one? Clothes.
A tie is probably the most boring, and then there are socks.
Also in the clothing category: shoes
It's not that guys don't like shoes or need them.
It's just that guys consider them kind of like you think of a vacuum cleaner: necessary, but not a lot fun.
Next, gift cards.
Stocking stuffer? Maybe.
Main gift? No.
A gift card shows you cared enough to visit the grocery store.
Dumb idea number three? Tickets to the ballet, opera or anywhere you want to go, rather than where he wants to go.
Self-help anything, from books to exercise gear, unless specifically requested, is a gift that says he's not good enough.
And finally, number five.
The worst gift I've ever gotten? A larger-than-life framed picture of a former girlfriend, that I was forced to hang on my wall.
Can you say "tacky?"
I'm not trying to be a sexist. I'm sure exceptions abound.
But those are gifts I certainly don't want to get this year.
