Matamoros residents are reporting a tense calm following a series of 'narcoblockades' and shootouts on Wednesday night.

Tamaulipas State Police told Action 4 News that authorities spent Thursday morning removing buses and other vehicles from medians and roadways.

There were few details about the shootouts available from Mexican authorities but residents posted their accounts and photos on-line.

American officials confirmed that the northbound lanes of the Veterans International Bridge were closed on the Matamoros side during the incident.

The bridge was reopened Wednesday night.

Tamaulipas State Police report that traffic was back to normal on Thursday.
