The IRS may be looking for you, this time to give you money.

The Internal Revenue Service is looking to return $164.6 million in undelivered refund checks.

A total of 111,893 taxpayers are due one or more refund checks that could not be delivered because of mailing address errors.

This includes more than 9,800 undelivered refund checks to Texans totaling more than $12 million.

Many of these tax payers live right here in the Rio Grande Valley.

"Every year, many taxpayers miss their refunds because they move without notifying the IRS or Postal Service of a change of address, “said Lea Crusberg, an IRS spokeswoman in Houston.

Crusberg tells Action 4 News, the important thing is we want to get this money in the hands of the taxpayers.

There are two ways to collect your refund check.

You can log on to the official IRS website, IRS.gov and click on the “where's my refund tool”.

Or you can simply call 1-800-TAX-1954.

"Once they call in, get in touch with us, get the change of address information they will get that check within four to six weeks", said Crusberg.

Crusberg adds there is no statute of limitation on the refund checks so you have plenty of time to collect your money.

The IRS also recommends that taxpayers file their tax returns electronically, because e-file eliminates the risk of lost paper returns.

E-file also reduces errors on tax returns and speeds up refunds.

The public should be aware that the IRS does not contact taxpayers by e-mail to alert them of pending refunds and that such messages are common identity theft scams.

Below is an official list released by the IRS of taxpayers owed refund checks.
