Students at South Texas College’s Mid-Valley campus were shocked to learn their cafeteria is a dirty diner.
The Food Patrol paid a visit to the Weslaco campus Wednesday afternoon to find out who’s responsible for a dismal, demerit-filled inspection report.
Kitchen cops exposed 33 demerits during a health inspection report.
The violations on that inspection included off-temperature food like fajita, beef patties and chicken.
There was also expired bread.
One student at STC, who also worked at a restaurant, said he was horrified to hear things got so out-of-hand in the kitchen.
“That’s pretty horrible,” Luis Dimas said. “It’s expired food for a reason… cause you’re not supposed to eat it.”
The food manager, Sylvia Cavazos, admitted she was also mortified to see the high number of demerits that piled up inside her cafeteria.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Cavazos said.
And while Cavazos owned up to many of the violations, there was one area of concern she said her kitchen was not at fault.
