Three-car wreck ties up traffic outside Pharr, McAllen shopping centers

Authorities are investigating the cause of a three-car wreck that tied up traffic at busy shopping centers along the Pharr and McAllen city limits.

Pharr police told Action 4 News that the accident happened near the intersection of Sam Houston Avenue and South Jackson Road around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The accident happened in front of the one of the entrance's to Sam's Club on the McAllen side of the street but Pharr police are handling the investigation.

Authorities had to divert traffic in the area.

It's not clear how the accident happened but a Dodge van became sandwiched and laying partially on top of a Lincoln Navigator and a Ford Thunderbird.

Pharr police said four people were in the three vehicles. The four people suffered bumps and bruises.

An elderly gentleman in the Dodge van had to be removed using the jaws of life due to how his vehicle ended up.
