Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos wants to remain in his seat.
I believe that I've done my job, I've done it well and I'm asking people to vote for me again, "said Judge Cascos.
Meanwhile challenger, Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner John Wood wants to take over the position. "I certainly would appreciate consideration and vote for me for County Judge", said Wood.
The two men squared off for a debate inside the Harlingen Public Library.
The event was hosted by the Harlingen area Tea Party.
"We want people to meet the candidates and this is a golden opportunity to do, "said Eric McCoy, Vice President of the Tea Party Association.
"We want to hold the candidates’ accountable to the people and let them know the people are educated about the issues", said McCoy.
The public asked questions of the candidates, and of topics included economic development, infrastructure, even a veterans hospital.
Both men agree the County Judge position comes down to strong leadership.
"I am a certified public accountant" said Cascos. "We are going through some really difficult times today; I believe that I have the experience and the leadership the right and tough decisions." John Wood tells Action 4 News.
"The county is too big we have too much going on to leave it to a part time position it's not a part time position any more. I have lots of experience in working with governments and working collaboratively with all sorts of different organizations and groups", said Wood.
While both Cascos and Woods want the job as Cameron County Judge it will voters to decide which man is elected into the position.
