Secundino mata is on the run and authorties need the public's help in catching him.

The U.S. Marshals Service reported that the 29-year-old San Benito native escaped from the Three Rivers Federal Corrections Institution back on September 16th.

Mata was convicted in a cocaine and money laundering case from Corpus Christi back in March 2008.

A federal judge sentenced him to 14 years and seven months behind bars.

Prison officials reported that Mata turned up missing during a head count.

Investigators aren't releasing many details on the escape but court records show he was housed in the minimum security work camp known as the Uvalde Unit of the prison.

Court records also records show that Mata had cell phone contact with people in Harlingen and San Benito both before and after his escape.

Federal officials filed charges against three of the people Mata spoke to: Sergio Mata, Jose Maria Mares and David Mares.

The three men allegedly lied to federal officials about talking to him on the phone.

His whereabouts are unknown but he has strong ties to the Rio Grande Valley.

Mata's last known address was Bonham Street in San Benito.

Anyone with information about Mata's whereabouts is asked to call the U.S. Marshalls Service at  (877) WANTED2.
