A former football player with Brownsville's Lopez High School has been certified as an adult for the murder of his ex-girlfriend.

Cameron County District Attorney's Office officials told Action 4 News that 16-year-old Javier de la Rosa, Jr. was certified as an adult in the case on Friday.

De la Rosa is indicted on three counts of capital murder in the brutal stabbing death of 17-year-old Los Fresnos High School student Tiffany Galvan.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to Benavides Park off south Browne Road after somebody found her body back in August.

De la Rosa has been in custody at the Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Detention Center in San Benito since shortly after the incident.

The 16-year-old was transferred to the Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito shortly after the judge's decision to certify him as an adult.

Officials told Action 4 News that De la Rosa is being held under a $1,000,000 dollar bond.

De la Rosa played for the Lopez High School football team.

Investigators said he and Galvan met through an on-line social media network.
