From golfing to swimming, fees in the City of Edinburg are scheduled to increase.

The city said it needs to collect more for facilities.

One facility, residents will see an increase in fees is Los Lagos Golf Course.

Melvin Shook, an avid golfer there, said he plays 2 to 3 times a week, and even though there will be more fees come October, Shook said he'll still come to swing the clubs.

"As much as I play golf, I still benefit," said Shook.

The city of Edinburg has approved an increase in fees for swimming pools, community centers, the World Birding Center and meeting rooms to name a few.

"As far as the amount of hours we were putting in, and compared to what we got in return, it didn't balance out, so we up some of the prices," said Luis Rodriguez, the city parks and recreation director.

This increase in rates will be the first time since 1997 for pool rentals, park pavilions and athletic fields, and the first rate increase since 2000 for golf courses.

"This is just a measure that we underwent to review all our operations," said Edinburg City Manager Ramiro Garza.

Garza said the city did a survey of the fees for other facilities nearby.

"Compared to other areas, it's not any higher than the use in other facilities," said Garza.

The price changes vary depending on the facility.

The rate increases start October 1.
