An "all clear" signal has been given and a federal investigation has begun.

Four buildings on the campus of Texas State Technical College campus in Harlingen were placed under a temporary lockdown after a suspicious object was found in a large trash container Friday afternoon.

School officials said the following buildings are blocked off:

  • - Texas State Rep. Irma Rangel Science and Technology Building (W)
  • - George F. Young Engineering Technology Building (S)
  • - Computer Science Programs Building (G)
  • - Biomedical/Dental Laboratory Building (D)

TSTC police, Harlingen police and Brownsville police are at the scene removing the suspicious object with the assistance of a specialized bomb squad robot.

Authorities said that U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) agents have taken over the investigation.

TSTC Associate Vice President of External Relations Angie Gonzales issued a statement during the incident.

“We are taking appropriate measures such as activating the college’s Emergency Notification System to alert students and employees to take precautions," Gonzales said. "Nobody will be allowed into or out of the buildings until the investigation is complete and the area is secure."
