Weslaco day care director jailed for boy's beating

The former director of a child day care center in Weslaco day care is facing criminal charges after she allegeldy beat a 4-year-old boy under her care.

Weslaco police arrested 55-year-old Yolanda Rodriguez on an injury to a child charge on Wednesday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Rodriguez is the former director at the Happy Days Learning Center at 1411 West 18th Street in Weslaco.

Police said the Rodriguez hurt the boy during a July 24th incident at the day care center.

Investigators said the boy misbehaved and Rodriguez took him to a separate room where a witness saw her grab him by the arm.

The witness left the room but clearly heard the boy yell out, "It hurts."

Police officers investigated the alleged act of child abuse and discovered bruising and redness to the boy's arms and back as well as on the back of his neck and one ear.

The day care remains open but police said Child Protective Services is also inestigating the case.

Rodriguez appeared before a Weslaco municipal judge on Wednesday morning where she was issued a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
