A jailed customs officer has been issued a $500,000 dollar bond after facing a judge for the alleged murder of a Mission night club owner.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer Jose Elizondo for murder on Monday.

Elizondo is accused of using his department-issued gun to shoot Punto Tres Nightclub owner Fermin Limon outside the club early Monday morning.

Limon died at a local hospital where he was being treated for gunshot wounds to the chest and leg.

Elizondo appeared before a judge at the Hidalgo County Jail on Tuesday morning where he was issued a $500,000 dollar bond.

Deputies also charged Bryan Cruz with tampering with evidence in the case.

Investigators said Limon handed Cruz a gun that he allegedly pointed at Elizondo, who claims he shot first in self-defense.

The judge issued a $250,000 dollar bond for Cruz.
